On February 8th, 2001, Disney California Adventure officially opened for business. Ten years later, there will be no celebration or fanfare since the park is still riddled with construction. As Annual Passholders, we were allowed to preview the park several days before the official opening. Read on for a few pictures from our first trip to the Park.
Please forgive the picture quality. These pictures were scanned from my wife’s scrapbook, as we weren’t digital back in 2001.
We still look exactly the same (and I’m sure I still have that sweatshirt).
Avalon Cove, with Wolfgang Puck still in charge and no Princesses in sight.
The beautiful skyline of Paradise Pier including the Sun Wheel and the Maliboomer, but no Toy Story Midway Mania.
The “Eureka!” parade had lots of beautiful floats, but no Disney (or even Pixar) characters.
This one was taken a little later in 2001, but this was one of my favorite attractions so I had to include it.
California Adventure has seen a few changes along the way including some new attractions (Tower of Terror and Toy Story Midway Mania) and even a whole new land (a bug’s land), but that’s nothing compared with the changes that are going on now. I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years of DCA will bring.
