Mark Woodbury, the President of Universal Creative, and Jim Timon Sr., VP of Universal Entertainment, announced new entertainment offerings during a live webcast to several media outlets. He also gave updates to existing projects like the digital enhancements to the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman and the all new Despicable Me attractions. He also briefly discussed the 2 new elaborately themed miniature golf courses coming to Universal CityWalk. During the webcast Woodbury proclaimed 2012 as “The Year to be Here.”
A new Blue Man Group show to Premiere this February
The very popular Blue Man Group show at Universal Orlando is making some enhancements starting this February. Guests will get to experience new high-energy music, comedy, new technology and a new show environment. The show will also feature a pulsating new show finale sure to have the audience on the edge of their seats.
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man to complete enhancements this March
Work continues on one of the most popular theme park attractions anywhere. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man inside Islands of Adventure will feature new digital 4K HD technology and new high tech 3D glasses to enhance your viewing experience. Also included in the update are new show set pieces and even a cameo of the legendary comic book icon and Spiderman co-creator Stan Lee. Universal has dropped Lee into the attraction and is leaving it up to you to find him.
Superstar Parade to debut at Universal Studios this Spring
The streets of Universal Studios Florida will come alive with a new daytime parade starring some of the park’s most beloved characters. Park icons such as SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals, the Despicable Me minions, and Nickelodeon’s Dora and Diego will be a part of this interactive daytime parade. The parade will also feature larger than life floats, state of the art technology, and hundreds of energetic street performers.
Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories to debut this Spring
Universal Orlando is unwrapping a brand new nighttime show this Spring inside Universal Studios. The show will take place all through the lagoon in the center of the theme park. Using water based, screen technology Universal will show clips from some of the most popular movies over the past 100 years. The show will feature musical backgrounds and dazzling colors with narration by popular actor and voice over artist Morgan Freeman.
Despicable Me – Minion Mayhem to open this Summer at Universal Studios
We now know the official name of the attraction dedicated to the popular Despicable Me movie. Despicable Me – Minion Mayhem will give children and their families the chance to interact with hundreds of minions in this wild 3-D adventure. Guests will come face to face with Gru and his daughters as they go through minion training and a minion dance party finale.

Hollywood Drive-In Golf, a 36-hole elaborately themed miniature golf course at Universal CityWalk will open this February.
A new immersive SpongeBob SquarePants retail experience will open this year inside Universal Studios. Children will find SpongeBob himself along with several other characters from the popular kid’s animated TV series inside the retail outlet.
Wet n’ Wild water park will open its first interactive water play area in 2012. Water park officials, which is minutes from Universal Orlando, says the play area will feature 15 water slides and lush tropical landscaping.
As you can see there’s a lot going on at the Universal Orlando resort in 2012. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is only one reason to visit the mega resort. Make sure to plan some time into your schedule to visit and see these other experiences. With so much to see and do 2012 is certainly “The Year to be Here”!
