I had the opportunity to visit LEGOLAND yesterday before it opened to the public today, October 15, 2011. The 150-acre park is located in Winter Haven, Florida. It is about 45 minutes from Walt Disney World and 45 minutes from Downtown Tampa. It was designed for families with children ages 2-12. This is the largest LEGOLAND park in the world.
The park is beautiful. There is plenty of parking when you arrive but be sure to take note where you are parked because I thought the signage was lacking. Parking is $12 and they do offer preferred parking if you would like to park closer.
There is a stroller and ECV rental area as you enter the park on the left. There are also lockers for rent in this area also.
One detail I really appreciated was the benches. There were plenty of them throughout the park to rest your weary body. There are also plenty of planters and walls if you need to sit for a quick rest break.
You are also never far from large park maps as you walk through the park. It seemed easier to look at these maps instead of pulling the one out of your pocket.
Since we were part of the Media visiting the park we were taken to the back of the park and worked our way forward. We saw lots of great things and couldn’t wait to explore on our own. There are 50 million Lego bricks in the park and we got to watch as they installed the 50th million brick.
The park is set up into 10 themed zones.
The Beginning has the park entry, ticket and pass sales, as well as the ride Island in the Sky. It is a 100 foot rotating platform that offer a great view of the park.
Fun Town contains a Grand Carousel. This is a one of a kind two story carousel. This seemed to be very popular with the adults.
Miniland USA is an awesome area. I could have spent hours there. There are 8 specially themed areas, Florida, Las Vagas, Washington, DC, New York City, California, and Pirate Shores.
Lego Kingdoms
In the Land of Adventure you will find Coastersaurus, the Lost Kingdom Adventure and several other rides. The LEGO Technic area was closed off when we were in the area because of the media event. I can’t wait to go back and experience the Wave Racers, Technicycle and the Test Track Coaster.
LEGO City, I loved this area! This area was designed with the family in mind. I can’t wait to go back and experience the LEGO City Rescue Academy. You compete with other families to put out a fire and save the day!
Be sure you don’t miss The Big Test. We loved this show. Be warned the first few rows get very wet as they learn how to become official firefighters.
The Imagination Zone lets families play together. Be sure to check out the Kid Power Towers!
Pirate’s Cove is a great live action, water stunt show. The entire family will enjoy this show!
The DUPLO Village has several attractions for toddlers.
Be sure you allow time to visit the Cypress Gardens area. This is a great place to cool off, relax and enjoy this beautiful area. The Banyan tree in this area was planted as a seedling in a 5 gallon bucket in 1939.
There is so much to see and do at LEGOLAND that I know we will be going back! Click here if you would like to see more photos of LEGOLAND FLORIDA.
