Smarter Planet by IBM opened January 29, 2010 in Epcot at Walt Disney World. It is designed to show the impact that individuals and groups working together can have on the planet. IBM is an original sponsor in Innoventions since 1994.
Smarter Planet is located in Innoventions West. This building is on the right as you approach the tip board on the right side of Spaceship Earth.
I’ll admit it, I am a big computer geek! I always visit the IBM area when I go into Innoventions. For those of you familiar with their exhibit in the past, the terminals to send picture emails to your friends are gone. The new area will be popular also for those looking for a cool place to escape the heat with their little lounge area.
There are computer terminals where you can play a game before entering the area where you can create a personal avatar of yourself and play a video game.
This giant rotating ball hangs over the area scrolling messages.
If you step across the walkway you enter the Smarter Planet video game area. First you are invited to create your own personal avatar. You are instructed to step on the arrow and told to run, jump, dance. At the end you can view your avatar. If you don’t like it you can do it again. When your computer terminal is ready you can play the video game with your personal avatar.
This area already seems very popular. I hope you enjoy the area as much as we did. Tell me what you think.
