Just got in from an awesome evening .
We were invited to the VIP Grand Opening of a new restaurant at Gaylord Palms, which is just off the Walt Disney World property. They have just opened a new Asian / Fusion sushi bar named Sora.
This small, but elegant venue sits in the main lobby and has that Miami Beach / Vegas ultra lounge feel. The restaurant is open on all sides and features beautiful modern booths and club chairs and a great bar. The menu is is eclectic and pricey, but we are frequently asked about an upscale experience for adults. This could be it kids.
As we approached, we were asked our names and the hostess checked her guest list. We were escorted into the restaurant, passing some very beautiful models standing on a low slung wall, wearing some racy and exotic Asian inspired outfits and posing for everyone.
Inside, hosts and hostesses mingled through the crowd with bite sized samples of several different menu items. There was also a working sushi bar and a station making these fantastic steamed buns that were filled with pulled pork and topped with your choice of toppings. There was also an open bar.
As we mingled through the crowd, we met the terrific folks from Gaylord Palms. They are very proud of their new venture and they should be. This place has a very hip feel to it.
While the folks working couldn’t have been any nicer or more helpful, there was a relaxed, “casual yet elegant” feel to everything. You really wanted for nothing.
The food that we tried was top notch and the sushi was some of the freshest we ever had. It was so good and so beautiful…we even got Dianer to try it.
As I said earlier….we are frequently asked where to find an “adult” experience…someplace to go without the kids…that doesnt necessarily have a theme park edge. If sushi or Asian food is something that appeals to you, you really need to give this place a try. Without being judgemental….this is an upscale place and you might feel underdressed in shorts or theme park attire. You will feel more comfortable if you feel like you look sharp. This would be a great “date night” place. They tell me they will be offering full meals….dishes to share…and snack / appetizer type things.
Please keep in mind that this is not a full fledged review but a first impression.
Corey tells me that he got some great photos and I am sure he will be posting them soon.
Catch you later.
Corey here, just chiming in on the end of Kevin’s blog to add some photos…
Chef Willie (the head chef) was nice enough to create this wonderfull dish for me showcasing a variety of fish.
This is their signature roll, the Wonka Dynamite Roll.
